Toronto rapper Shane Redway died early Saturday morning (Aug. 1) after he was involved in a fatal car accident that killed all three passengers inside. As news of Redway’s unfortunate passing spread, an outpouring of support and condolences materialized across social media channels that is still ongoing this morning.

From what was reported by the Toronto Star, Redway was traveling in a vehicle with three others around 4 a.m. local time on Saturday. The car was traveling on Highway 427 and headed onto a northbound ramp for the 401 westbound track where it skidded off the road and hit the right guardrail. The impact of the accident was so severe that the car exploded into flames.

More from Toronto Star:

The vehicle burst into flames after the crash and witnesses rushed to the scene in an attempt to rescue the three people trapped inside. They got one out, the OPP said, and performed CPR on the woman until paramedics arrived.

The two people trapped inside the vehicle were pronounced dead on the scene, while the woman was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she later died.

Police haven’t confirmed the identities of victims, but believe the two people trapped inside the car were a male driver and female passenger. OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said confirming the identities has been challenging because the bodies are badly burnt.

Redway’s Champ Management team confirmed the death to the Star and issued a brief statement.

“Redway was known for being a passionate artist who was always striving for greatness, pushing the boundaries of always believing in your visions & dreams which led to the creation of the BLVD (The Belief Leading Visions & Dreams),” Champ Managment wrote in the email statement.

Fellow Toronto rappers Drake and Kardinal Offishal expressed shared thoughts over the passing of the rising young artists. They join several others in tributes and other displays of kind words and well wishes to the family.

The family of Redway created a GoFundMe page over the weekend. Serving as a testament to the glowing words fellow entertainers and artists had, the $10,000 goal has already been reached.
