When he’s not working in a music studio, it seems like the RZA is always on a movie set.

For his latest trick, the Wu-Tang Clan figurehead will direct an upcoming action film titled Breakout, which stars Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick.

Reports Variety:

RZA will direct from a script by Richard D’Ovidio, based on a story from Richard D’Ovidio and Nicole D’Ovidio about a young photographer falsely arrested in Bangladesh for drug trafficking. His prominent father enlists two old friends to help him break his son out of prison and uncover the truth.

“Breakout” is RZA’s third directorial project following 2011’s “The Man with the Iron Fists” and “Coco,” which recently wrapped. “Coco” stars Azealia Banks with John David Washington, Hana Mae Lee, Common and Jill Scott and is set for release from Lionsgate on March 16.

“The multi-talented RZA has mastered the art of music, acting and filmmaking,” said Amasia principals Bradley Gallo and Michael Helfant. “We are ecstatic to have him behind the camera on our next project as he brings a fresh and innovative take to this international action thriller from Rich D’Ovidio.”

Amasia worked with D’Ovidio previously on “The Call,” starring Halle Berry and Abigail Breslin.

RZA is represented by CAA and Peter Nichols at Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler & Feldman.

And, may we add, it’s refreshing to hear that the next project he’s working on was not a biopic.
