An active shooter is on the loose on the campus grounds of Delta State University in Mississippi. Thus far, a professor has been declared dead but other details are still pouring in according to law officials on the ground.

As reported by the Clarion-Ledger, the professor was shot and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment via ambulance. Delta State, which is based in Cleveland, Miss., has been instructed to follow lock down measures as the Cleveland Police Department searches for the suspect.

More from the Clarion-Ledger:

Bolivar County Coroner Dr. Nate Brown said the professor was shot, but could not give any further information at this time.

Cleveland Police Department confirmed the victim was taken by ambulance, and the suspect is on the loose.

Authorities are asking that students and faculty please take immediate lock down action.

Cleveland police say they are assisting Delta State police with the investigation, and neither department would confirm whether there is or is not still an active shooter on campus. DSU police referred the question to communications and marketing.

Someone who answered the phone in the communications department said they cannot release information at this time, but will update the media when they can.

Delta State has released a second Twitter advisory telling people to stay inside and away from windows.

We will update this story as it is still developing.
