As long as you are getting quality care, it shouldn’t matter what the ethnicity or race of your medical professional is, right? Well a Florida-based healthcare company said Haitian nurses need not a apply in a help wanted ad in West Haverstraw, NY (about an hour outside of NYC).

Reports CBS New York:

Interim Healthcare Inc.’s ad for a female nursing position in West Haverstraw explicitly stated “No Haitians” would be considered for employment. The ad was placed in a local Pennysaver.

“I am outraged at this blatant form of employment discrimination,” New York State Senator David Carlucci said in a statement. “This company should be ashamed of itself, and Pennysaver should strongly reconsider running any job postings from Interim Healthcare in future publications.”

Haitian American Nurses Association of Rockland County founder Berthilde Durfrene told CBS2’s Hazel Sanchez that her jaw dropped when she first saw the ad.

“Why the Haitian nurses? And I started to think what could possibly trigger such a mean and disgusting thing from anyone,” Dufrene said.

Dufrene posted the ad on her Facebook page, and is receiving support for Haitian nurses all across the country. They are demanding both Interim Healthcare and Pennysaver take responsibility.

What’s that you were saying about post-racial America?
