A Tribe Called Quest fans are still processing the loss of beloved group member Phife Dawg, but news recently emerged that traction has been made on a move that would honor the crew. According to a report from TMZ, it appears that city council members are receptive to renaming Linden Boulevard in Queens, New York after the Hip-Hop quartet.

As we reported on Sunday, a petition to rename Linden Boulevard was fastly approaching its 5,000 signature goal and is just shy of making its mark Tuesday (Mar. 29). According to TMZ, sources involved in the Change.org petition from the Hip-Hop Discussion Group have promising news.

From TMZ:

Sources involved in the campaign tell us they crossed another hurdle — getting Phife’s family to sign off on the plan. We’re told NYC requires such approval before putting a celeb name on a street sign. Also, Councilman Daneek Miller says he’s fully behind the plan because “A Tribe Called Quest is fundamentally important to the history of Queens.”

There are also proposals on the table to co-name streets in honor of The Notorious B.I.G., Big Pun and Wu-Tang Clan.

ATCQ member Jarobi White also called for the renaming of various sites and street sections in Phife Dawg’s native St. Albans, Queens, which also sparked a similar petition.
