Ryan Turk, a middle school student in Prince William County, Va., was charged with stealing a carton of milk back on May 10. What makes the charge curious is that Turk is signed up for a free lunch program at the Graham Park Middle School and was entitled to take the milk he reportedly stole.
In an exclusive report from local Washington news outlet WJLA-TV, Turk and his parents spoke with the news broadcast about the incident. Turk explained that he forgot to grab his milk when he went through the lunch line initially and went back to retrieve a carton. An on-duty Prince William County police officer accused the boy of stealing the free milk and attempted to corner him.
Turk admits to jerking away from the cop, which prompted handcuffing by the officer. The parents of Turk are infuriated as their son has essentially been suspended for what amounts to be $0.65 and facing a larceny charge. The case is under appeal but the county school board at the moment.
