Isaiah Rashad has revealed why we didn’t get a lot of music from him after 2014’s Cilvia Demo. Drugs.

Isaiah Rashad seemed poised to ride the TDE wave to superstardom when he dropped his debut project Cilvia Demo to widespread acclaim. But, when he didn’t follow up the project with any substantial amount of music, which is the norm nowadays, fans started wondering where he was and what he was doing.

In an interview on the Juan Epstien podcast, Rashad revealed that drug addiction is the reason why his music output came to a halt.

He says that after he got off tour with ScHoolboy Q‘s Oxymoron tour in 2015, drugs and alcohol pretty much took over his life.

In the interview he says:

“Honestly, I got off the Oxymoron tour kinda addicted to xans and an alcoholic…I f*cked up…I f*cked up pretty bad. I almost got dropped like three times.”

TDE is known to run a tight, efficient ship, so Rashad was really skating on thin ice. While he did wind up conquering his addictions and getting sober, he did not leave without scars. He says that all of the drugging and drinking led to a tear in his stomach lining.

Rashad is set to release his sophomore album The Sun’s Tirdade this Friday, Septemer 2.
