J. Cole‘s second HBO documentary, J. Cole: 4 Your Eyez Only, aired over the weekend and featured the North Carolina star traveling to various locales to highlight the struggles of the working class and much more. During the documentary, the Fayetteville native shared a handful of songs previously unheard.

The moving human portrayal of struggle was present in Cole’s documentary, spliced with some events that also impacted his life personally. Cole, who co-directed the event alongside co-director Scott Lazer, focused on several subjects across Ferguson, Mo., Baton Rouge, La., Jonesboro, Ark., and his hometown as well. Between the vignettes, Cole performed songs from his latest studio album, 4 Your Eyez Only, with artful backdrops shot by him and Lazer.
