The drug trial has officially begun for reggae star Buju Banton.
Banton, real name Mark Anthony Myrie, was arrested last December after police say he conspired to buy more than five kilograms of cocaine from an undercover police officer.
Buju was arraigned in court January 7and has been adamant about his innocence, pleading not guilty to the federal drug charge.
Jury selection begins today in a Tampa, Florida federal court.
Prosecutors say Banton and two other men met with an undercover agent to buy the illegal substance.
Those two other men have also been charged and agreed to testify against Banton.
If convicted he faces life in prison.
