Atlanta Season 2, Episode 2 stills

Source: FX / FX

Fresh off the polite jux situation, Paper Boi and Earn pay a visit to a bootleg Spotify situation for one of those friendly artist visits. Atlanta does an amazing job of showing just how much they have their finger on the pulse of the culture. The scene pretty much calls out every sh*tty aspect of how these visits to these white run companies (no shots) can be for Black artists.

Things start off bad for Earn and his artist immediately when talking with Peter Savage aka 35 Savage who is charge of music outreach.

When 35 soon to be 36 Savage asks to hear the music Earn pulls out a CD only to find out they no longer have any disc drives in the office. They are using a state-of-the-art wireless system that’s fully integrated with the platform.

Peter then asks if Earn has the song on laptop or his phone. Earn hands over his Android device and that doesn’t work either. The last and final option for the listening session is Pete’s hotmail account (who still has hotmail?). The song initially plays but that also fails so it’s on to the next part of this visit.

Paperboi is subjected to everything from pointless voiceovers, to even a lackluster performance of his song that never really gets started. We also see another in office performance going on that was a glaring reference to Bobby Shmurda’s embarrassing table dancing jig at Epic Records. Twitter quickly took notice of the moment.

Another interesting moment in the faux Spotify office was them meeting another artist named Clark County who Twitter instantly believed was the show making fun of Chance The Rapper. Sporting Chance’s signature overall looks and even eventually showing up later in the episode in hilarious YooHoo commercial that seemed to take a swipe at Chance’s Kit-Kat spot, Atlanta Twitter was beside itself.

We would love to sit at a table read for this show.
