The public outcry from advocates to stop the execution of Julius Jones, a Black Oklahoma resident who was charged and convicted for the murder of Paul Howell in a 1999 carjacking was successful as Governor Kevin Stitt commuted Jones' sentence to life without parole on Thursday, hours before the execution was to take place.
