The tragedy surrounding the death of Chicago teen Hadiya Pendleton has affected Michelle Obama and others in the White House. The FLOTUS will attend Pendleton’s funeral Saturday, February 9, says a White House official who requested not to be named.
Just one week after performing during President Barack Obama’s inauguration in Washington, DC with her high school band and drill team, a 15-year-old student was shot and killed on the South Side of Chicago.
Chicago has been getting tons of press for its massive homicide rate, which climbed to 500 at the end of last week, but Detroit has honed in on a similarly dreadful landmark. Mayor Dave Bing released the city’s homicide stats for 2012 and out of 461 death investigations, 411 were homicides.
