Dr. Maya Angelou

The legendary wordsmith will have her image placed on a limited edition run of quarter coins beginning next year, essentially making her the first Black woman to appear on U.S. currency.

The iconic Dr. Maya Angelou gets honored with today’s (April 4) Google Doodle on her birthday. The renowned poet, activist and phenomenal human being, who passed away in 2014, would have been 90. 

The late, great Dr. Maya Angelou is Black Excellence personified, this is not debatable. A new doc, Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise, captures the essence of the poet and activist—and dancer, singer and more. 

When news of Dr. Maya Angelou’s passing hit the Internet, it took the viral universe by storm. Her death shocked the world (even after living a full life), but no one was more vocal about his encounter with the poet laureate than Common.

As you all may have learned by now, world renowned author and poet Dr. Maya Angelou dearly departed earlier this morning (May 28) at her home in Winston-Salem, NC.
