Yusef Salaam, a member of the Exonerated Five, was declared the official winner of his City Council election on Wednesday. The tally from the Board of Elections showed that he won the ranked-choice vote with 64 percent, leading the next challenger by a wide margin.

Yusef Salaam, a member of the Exonerated Five, won his race for New York City Council on Tuesday by a sizable margin. The justice advocate led two state Assembly members Inez Dickens and Al Taylor as well as incumbent Kristin Richardson Jordan with over 50 percent of the vote according to the initial tallies at the end of the evening.
