One of the teenagers accused of beating 16-year-old Derrion Albert to death is being let free. First degree murder charges were dropped against 18-year-old Eugene Bailey who was arrested two days after the honor student’s killing outside of Fenger Academy High School.

The state’s attorney’s office released a statement on his release saying,

“While the charge against Bailey was brought in good faith based on witness accounts and identifications, additional information has developed during the ongoing investigation that warranted dismissal of the murder charge against Bailey at this time.”

After his release, Eugene spoke briefly to reporters and sent a ‘shout-out’ to the fallen boy’s family.

“I just want to give a shout-out to Derrion’s family, his mother and his grandmother. And I’m sorry I couldn’t attend his funeral. He was a good friend of mine.”

Let’s hope the individuals truly responsible for Derrion’s death receive the conviction they deserve. It’s been nearly a month since his death and justice has yet to be served.
