The son of Teddy Pendergrass is confirming that the singer/songwriter died late Wednesday night.

Teddy Pendergrass II told the Associated Press that his father passed away trying to recover from colon cancer surgery.

He was 59-years-old.

Teddy will always be remembered for his hits including “Close The Door” “Feel The Fire”, “Love TKO” and “When Somebody Loves You Back” as well as the many Hip-Hop songs that sampled his records.

Nelly’s “My Place” featuring Jaheiem is almost a direct sample of Pendergrass’ “My Place” while Jay’Z and Big Boi sampled Teddy’s “Miss You” for Jay’s “This Can’t Be Life” and Big Boi’s “Shyne Blockas” featuring Gucci Mane.

There are countless other songs in Hip-Hop that sampled the late soul singer. Through the music his legacy will live on.
