Rep. Gabrielle Giffords Speaks & Shows Signs Of Recovery
Giffords' Chief of Staff Happy to Get Her Toast
Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is on the road to recovery after being the victim of an almost fatal shooting on January 8th in Arizona.
The AP reports that her request for toast with her breakfast may seem small but as a victim of serious head trauma, it shows vast improvement in a short time.
"We were sitting and just talking with her while she was eating her breakfast and she was, you know, eating her oatmeal, hospital oatmeal, sort of playing with it and not really looking very enthusiastic," recalled Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a friend of Giffords who has been present for much of her recovery.
"And she took a look at her tray and there was bread on the tray and she looked at it and looked up and just said 'toast.'"
Neurologist, Dr. Jonathan Fellus told CBS news that it is amazing for Gabrielle to talk at all, and the fact that she's communicating desires means the most complex part of the brain is beginning to function.
Authorities announced Wednesday that they've finished their investigations into the shooting.
Twenty-two year-old Jared Loughner has pleaded not guilty to three federal charges and will face many more.
