Michelle Obama celebrates her 49th birthday today and launched a new Twitter account on the very same day.
The @FLOTUS handle has amassed nearly 40,000 followers in about five hours.
Like her husband who initials all his tweets, posts from Mrs. Obama will have “MO” at the end. The second thing posted on the account is a picture of the first lady meeting with Inaugural citizen co-chair David Hall, just ahead of the Martin Luther King Day service, next week.
The first lady also debuted a new haircut, which seems to have the media in a bubble of excitement.
Mrs. Obama's other Twitter account has more than 2 million followers but hasn't been updated as frequently since her husband was re-elected.
When it comes to social media, the Obamas depend on the medium to voice opinions, and publicize their platforms. After winning the election, a photo of the commander in chief embracing the first lady became the most shared image in the history of Twitter.
Obama has nearly 26 million followers on Twitter, but has yet to take down Twitter's reigning champion, Lady Gaga who has 33,163, 272 followers, pushing her ahead of Justin Bieber who is sitting at 33, 107, 170.
