Kanye West and his ambitious artistic aims have already delivered the epic short film slash music video “Runaway” in 2010. But it appears the Chicago superstar is set to shoot another high concept art film in the Middle East according to inside sources close to the project.
The New York Observer reports that West sent out a staff to the Persian Gulf region to scout out possible locales to shoot a mini-movie for a March filming date. The team of representatives was also sent to the region to discuss with local government officials the legalities of filming the piece there as well.
“In Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Doha all of the film initiatives are government controlled,” one source shared. “A bidding war is going on between various government entities and private investors to fund the film. There’s pretty intense rivalry here between Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Qatar. They all want to claim the film as their own and take credit for generating the publicity.”
While the aim and plot of the film have yet to be revealed and with sources tightlipped regarding the inside look of the project, it has been said that West became enraptured with Middle Eastern culture after a concert in Abu Dhabi. With his team in tow, sources say West wants to accurately portray the culture and even hopes to employ local talent for the clip.
“His reps seemed genuinely enthusiastic about creating a piece which highlights the culture accurately,” said another source. “They discussed how Kanye is looking to bridge the cultural divide and break misconceptions.”
Will Kanye West top his last short film with this upcoming venture?
