It’s been nearly a month since Mayor Cory Booker came under fire for his criticism against President Obama, but the issue has been re-birthed. Booker appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno Monday (June 18), and once again explained verbally scolding the POTUS, for his attacks on Mitt Romney’s past at Bain Capital.

According to Booker, his words about the president on Meet the Press were misconstrued. “I definitely wasn’t at my best,” he said. “What I was trying to express — the reaction to it all, really made my point, that we are now in this combustible polarized political environment that distracts us.”

Regardless of his blunder, the relationship between the Newark, N.J. mayor and the commander in chief is still intact. “We continue to be friends. He’s incredibly kind. And that’s the shame about this kind politics we’re in, is people often miss the essence of a man,” he added.  “We have a president, that despite whether you’re right or left, he’s a good person.”

Following the incident, Booker accused the Republic party of twisting his words.  His communications director also resigned in wake of the short-lived controversy.
