Barack Obama is using his love of basketball to raise funds for his re-election campaign. Later this year, the POTUS will be holding a basketball-themed fundraiser where top donors will be granted the opportunity to shoot hoops with the likes of Carmelo Anthony, Patrick Ewing,  Kyrie Irving, Alonzo Mourning and Sheryl Swoopes. The event is being called the “Obama Classic” and while there is no entry fee for a chance for you and a guest to attend, only top donors (~$35K – $40K+) will actually get onto the court with the current and former hoops stars. The winner will also have dinner with Michael Jordan and Obama, too.

“Hit the court with Patrick Ewing and Melo? This is the kind of stuff your kids will tell their kids, and no one will believe it until you show them a photo,” said deputy national field director Marlon Marshall in a letter/post announcing the Obama Classic. Anyone who donates to the Obama re-election campaign will automatically be entered moving forward.

Obama is clearly pulling out all the stops after Mitt Romney again raised more money in campaign donations thank Obama for the third month in a row. While the Obama Campaign raised $75 million in July, Mitt Romney’s raised $103 million.

The date and location of the Obama Classic has yet to be announced. May we suggest the White House lawn, or Rucker Park?
