While tension continues to grow in parts of Africa and the Middle East over last week’s viral backlash from the anti-Islamic film, Innocence of Muslims, the anger may spill over into the U.S. as anti-Islamic ads are to be sprinkled around New York City via public transit, as early as next week.

The ads, commissioned by the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI), will be plastered upon ten NYC Subway Stations, reading: “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad.”   Protest have already begun against the anti-Islamic ads, coming on the heels of a fierce legal battle in which a federal judge ruled that the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority  (MTA) could not legally deny the AFDI advertisement on the grounds of “demeaning” language.

“I will not abridge my freedoms so as not to offend savages,” stated  AFDI executive director, Pamela Geller, in an interview with Sky News.

New York City is no stranger to controversy and tension with its Muslim residents.  In 2010, an Islamic group with plans to erect a mosque near Ground Zero, caught flack as non-Muslim residents felt it was disrespectful to those who lost family members in the World Trade Center attacks on 9/11.  President Obama later came out in support of the construction of the mosque. Let me be clear: as a citizen, and as President, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country,” he said.

The AFDI already has ads up in parts of San Francisco.
