Maybach Music Group’s Gunplay is likely going to be behind bars for at least a couple of weeks. Although earlier reports stated that the Def Jam rapper turned himself in yesterday, Rick Ross’ rhyme protégé actually surrendered to authorities in Miami today, reports TMZ. Hip-Hop Wired reached out to Mr. 106 & Snort’s attorney, Mike Greico, who revealed that he does not expect his client to be released from jail for at least a week or two.

“The likelihood of [Gunplay] being out by the weekend is slim to none,” Greico told Hip-Hop Wired, which means the rapper will not be in Atlanta this weekend for the Smoking Section’s showcase at A3C Festival as planned. Don Logan is being held without bail and goes before a judge tomorrow, who will schedule a special bond hearing for sometime in the next couple of weeks.

On September 29th, Gunplay was detained, but not arrested, by police after getting into a wild fight with alleged members of 50 Cent’s G-Unit camp outside the Atlanta Civic Center during the BET Hip Hop Awards. Earlier today, footage was released of 50 Cent bowling while wearing an MMG chain that’s likely the same one that Gunplay admittedly lost during the fight in Atlanta.

“It was either he turned himself in, or if he performed this weekend they would have just pulled him off the stage,” said Greico. “He was in handcuffs at one point up in Atlanta and they released him without knowing that they had a warrant. But they know now.”

Turning himself in was a way for Gunplay to avoid any unnecessary drama with police. Explained Greico, “It gave us an opportunity to surrender him voluntarily down here in lieu of him sitting up in a jail in Atlanta for 30 days.”

The arrest warrant was for an armed robbery charge. Gunplay, born Richard Morales, and another man named Randy Jones stand accused of robbing a tax business (of a cell phones and a gold chain) at gunpoint on April 13th, 20012, reports NBC News. However, Greico feels that when all the facts are brought to light, his client will be vindicated.  “My gut tells me he’s going to be exonerated on this. It’s going to take some time though. But for now he’ll be in the jail, he’ll be in the court tomorrow, he looks forward to clearing his name. He wants to get out there and get back in the game.”

Sadly, this also means there won’t be any new videos like The Misadventures Of Gunplay: Gone Fishin’ for a long minute.
