A man was arrested early yesterday (November 1) morning after brandishing a weapon while waiting in line for gas after Hurricane Sandy’s unprecedented rampage throughout New York City and the New Jersey Shore. 35-year-old Sean M. Bailey, apparently frustrated by the damage left in the storm’s aftermath, saw his patience hit a wall as he waited in a long line of cars at an area Mobil fueling station.

Jumping ahead in line with his 2010 BMW, Bailey angered an unidentified 29-year-old motorist who protested the line hopping. Bailey reportedly pulled out a 25-caliber pistol on the man and threatened violence, reports DNAInfo.

Police were quickly called to the scene and arrested Bailey around 2:30 a.m. and retrieved the weapon from inside his left boot, according to a report from District Attorney Richard Brown’s office. If Bailey is convicted, he potentially faces up to 15 years in prison for the offense.

Tensions are undoubtedly high throughout the entire Northeast region, considering the heavy damage Sandy inflicted in New York City and much of neighboring New Jersey. Storm recovery in New York has been impacted greatly due to the unavailability of gas, halting the efforts of rescue and emergency crews working to get the city back to normal as quickly as possible. According to a New York Times report, hard-hit Manhattan should have most of its power restored by this Saturday according to power company Consolidated Edison.

Until then, residents need to maintain cooler heads at the pumps while gas lines and other services are restored.
