Wyclef Jean will have to find other ways to help his impoverished homeland of Haiti now that he’s been denied a bid for Presidency.

As previously reported, the former Fugee and philanthropist announced his plans to run for President in August and has since received criticism from actor Sean Penn and former bandmate Pras.

The Yele Haiti founder can return to business as usual however now that his Presidential bid has reportedly been denied.

Global news service Reuters reports that Clef was left of a list of approved candidates set to be released to the public later today.

The Haitian constitution requires that candidates for President must have lived in the country for five consecutive years prior to an election but Clef continued to argue that his status as an ambassador for the country made him exempt from the rule.

Clef is a reported resident of Brooklyn, New York.

Wyclef recently reported that he’d gone into hiding in a secret location because he was receiving death threats.
