Nick Minaj was the female rapper to beat at this year’s BET Awards, but the Young Money rapper reigned supreme. Minaj won the Best Female Hip-Hop Artist award and rather than star controversy, she paid homage to those in her league.
Earlier in the night, Minaj performed her track “Beez in the Trap,” alongside 2 Chainz, and when it was time to grab her award she gave thanks to other female MCs. “This is the third year in a row [winning this award] and I don’t take it for granted,” she started. “I really appreciate BET for keeping this category alive. I appreciate all the female rappers, past present, and future.”
Minaj has had a long-standing rift with Lil’ Kim, but based on her speech alone, the tide may have finally changed.
