A little over a week ago, New York MC Angel Haze went jacking for beats on her latest mixtape, titled Classick. Haze hit a Big Apple rooftop in the visuals for her rendition of Missy Elliott’s classic jam “Gossip Folks.” The Native American rapper takes a braggadocios approach to the record, mixing humor and wit with her rationale for why she’s better than her competition.
Angel Haze’s invasively vivid account of abuse at the hands of a family member on Eminem’s “Cleaning Out My Closet” has brought much attention to Classick. While listeners may find the tale too difficult to hear twice, Haze’s lyrical prowess deserves much applaud. The same can be said about the entire project.
