R. Kelly just raised the stakes with his Trapped in the Closet series. The long-running music project may be headed to Broadway.

Kelly announced plans to bring his brainchild to the Great White Way, during the unveiling of his latest Trapped in the Closet installment at Sunset Theaters, Monday (Nov. 20).“To transform it into a Broadway version, that’s what I’m working on,” he said.

Trapped in the Closet debuted as a song in 2005, and transformed into a theatrical work.  The Chicago native told MTV that he has written 30 more chapters of the story.

He now pride’s the series as being an alien that basically took up space in his brain. “I’m glad to be one of the astronauts to take this thing to the unknown,” he said. “Somehow, I landed ‘Trapped in the Closet’ from being silly.”

Since he’s (technically) unemployed Kellz consumed himself with the story out of sheer boredom.  “I’m just having a lot of fun. I don’t have a job, so I sit in the studio all day and thing of stuff to do and this is just something stupid I’ve done that’s been successful for me.”

For now, fans can witch Trapped in the College on the small screen when it airs on the IFC channel this  Friday (Nov. 23).
