The music industry is a cold game. Hip-Hop was built on sampling and once the music became profitable, that’s when the lawsuits began to flourish.

Sometimes it’s the original artists suing rappers. Sometimes it’s the rappers suing the ones who “bit” them.

In 2010, David Banner and 9th Wonder teamed up for a collaborative album, Death of a Pop Star which highlighted the gritty side of the fame monster. The LP’s biggest single, “Be With You” featured Ludacris and R&B darling, Marsha Ambrosius but not everyone was pleased with the outcome, as TMZ reports.

A soul singer named Tyrone Davis recorded a 1979 song called, “Be With Me.” The music producer and publisher claim Luda flagrantly ripped them off with his 2010 tune.

The Thirty Mile Zone didn’t list them by name but producers 9th Wonder and Warryn Campbell are most likely caught in the crossfire as well. When there’s royalties and lawyers involved, the motto is leave no penny unaccounted for.

This hasn’t been the most gradual transition to start a year for Ludacris. Word recently got out that he fathered a child outside of his longtime relationship with his girlfriend Eudoxie.

Listen to both songs on the following pages as the similarities are evident. Davis’ “Be With Me” is listed in the Death of a Pop Star’s credits but there’s no report on if the sample was actually cleared for publishing or how much in damages the soul singer is asking for.
