Adding to the struggle that is Darren Sharper‘s current position in prison for sexual assault, the former NFL great has some humbling news to digest. As part of a possible deal once of prison, Sharper may have to wear a monitor on his penis to, ahem, measure his arousal.
The New Orleans Advocate reported on Sharper’s post-prison predicament, which also includes no visits to liquor stores, sex shops, or Internet chatting for a date. After Sharper’s plea deal gave him what many felt was too light a sentence, the restrictions out on his life after serving just under a decade will feel like being behind bars if two New Orleans judges approve of the deal.
But what really turned heads was the fact that his penis may be monitored to test his arousal after looking at sexual images, and he has to comply unless he wants to head back to either a Louisiana or Arizona prison.

Sharper will be subject to lie detector tests and, while on lifetime probation in Arizona, to the “penile plethysmograph,” in which a sensor is attached to the penis while an array of sexual images flashes before his eyes, to gauge arousal.
Sharper will comply or land back in prison — in Arizona or Louisiana, or both — to serve at least another 14 years behind bars before returning to the same conditions.
Such are the terms of a “comprehensive and global disposition” that Sharper and prosecutors in four states have reached to resolve drugging and rape cases against him in Louisiana, Arizona, California and Nevada, covering nine sexual assault victims.
The terms of the deal remain for two judges in New Orleans — one federal, one state — to approve as public bewilderment rises locally and nationally over what many see as a sweetheart prison term for the retired ex-Saints star.
Like other sex offenders, Sharper will be monitored by GPS and has to get approval from state officials to move about. Sharper is still housed at the St. Tammany Parish jail while awaiting word on the results of a guilty plea deal he struck regarding charges against he and St. Bernard Parish Deputy Brandon Licciardi over their conspiracy to drug women and rape them.
Last week, Orleans Parish Criminal District Court Judge Karen Herman said she will not approve Sharper’s guilty plea deal unless U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo also complies. Judge Herman holds the most sway over Sharper’s future and could still have Sharper serve out the original sentence of 20 years on two counts of rape.
Under the agreement, Sharper’s time behind bars and probation counts towards his “in custody” tally under the Lousiana sentence.
