It’s deeper than rap, or at least it should be. Those were Wale’s sentiments on Wednesday morning (April 29) as he dialoged with youth in Baltimore following Monday’s riots (or should we say uprising).

Fox 5 DC spoke with Wale as he entered Frederick Douglass High School with Rev. Jamal Bryant. This is what he had to say:

“Regardless of what’s happened out here, these are the young leaders of tomorrow and they have to look in the mirror and see something better than what they’re being perceived as on TV,” Wale said. “We need each other. We need our community leaders to come step forward and we need these kids to understand that somebody believes in them. I believe in them, Jamal believes in them and there’s a lot of people in this community that believe in these kids.”

He later marched with students from Digital Harbor High School to the steps of City Hall, where he afterwards spoke with Complex about what sparked him to get involved.

Peep the later clip below. Footage from Wale’s trip to Frederick Douglass High School on the following pages.
