Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, has been caught and arrested after being on the run for six months.
Mexico’s president, Enrique Peña Nieto, tweeted news of El Chapo’s capture. “Mission accomplished: we have it. I want to inform the Mexican Joaquín Guzmán Loera has been arrested,” he tweeted, in Spanish.
El Chapo initially escaped from a maximum security prison, again, back in July. He was almost caught in October 2015 but managed to escape.
According the Associated Press, El Chapo was apprehended after a shootout.
Five people have been killed and one Mexican marine wounded in the clash.
The Mexican Navy said in a statement that marines acting on a tip raided a home in the town of Los Mochis before dawn. They were fired on from inside the structure. Five suspects were killed and six others arrested. The marine’s injuries were not life threatening.
At the home marines seized two armored vehicles, eight long guns, one handgun and a rocket-propelled grenade launcher.
Wait…El Chapo had grenade launcher in the crib? Bruh.
