Kobe Bryant‘s retirement ride into the sunset continues. It has been announced that Los Angeles City Council will be giving Kobe his own day.

The announcement was made on Twitter on Monday night. The date, 8/24, is a nod to the two jersey numbers that Kobe wore during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Obviously, Bryant is widely known for his accomplishments on the basketball court which includes five NBA Championships, two Olympic gold medals, 18 All-Star appearances and one NBA MVP award.

But, to the local L.A. community he is also known for his philanthropic endeavors. He and his wife Vanessa started the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation to use sports as a way to help youth and family in need and he serves as an honorary chair of United Way of Greater Los Angeles’s annual HomeWalk. He is also the ambassador for After-School All-Stars.
