Kendra Childs, a Houston mother of one, was shot and killed in drive-by shooting on Tuesday (Sept. 13) while inside her second-floor apartment. The killing of the 19-year-old sparked the “#ripkendra” hashtag across social media, with authorities investigating online threats from a supposed rival.
KTRK-TV reports:
Detectives are trying to track down the suspects behind a deadly shooting inside an apartment that killed a young woman.
“Witnesses reported seeing a black newer model Camaro with standard rims and tinted windows drive by the house and fire multiple rounds,” Mark Holdbrook with the Houston Police Department homicide unit said.
According to police, a man and a woman were inside that car, and family members believe their loved one, Kendra Childs, 19, was targeted.
The crime is especially jarring as Childs would have turned 20 today. Speculation into a Twitter user that goes by the name of “Lady Kokaine” and “LingLingBaby” had issued death threats towards Childs in the past.
Houston police are currently investigating the tweets along with other chatter that a jealous boyfriend may have been responsible. The search is still on for the suspects as Childs’ family and loved ones mourn the loss.
