A mentally ill New York City man injured an NYPD officer with an elephant tusk during a scuffle, because he had to rid himself of the voodoo spell taking over his being.

Dominick Anderson got into a domestic altercation with his grandmother, inside his apartment at around 8:10 a.m. this morning.

When the officer—who was alerted to the altercation by a bystander in the Manhattan neighborhood known as Hamilton Heights— jumped in he was promptly attacked with the plastic tusk. “My son has psychiatric problems,” his mother Mary Anderson (pictured above), said. “He thinks my mother is doing the voodoo on him.”

The 26-year-old hit the officer in the head, and severely wounded his 69-year-old-grandmother who was taken to Harlem Hospital after suffering a stab wound to the head. “He needs help,” Mary continued. “I went to the hospital—my mother is in critical condition.

“It’s a family tragedy. He’s a good boy.”

Before it was all said in done, Dominick struck a total of six officers, five of which were hit with a pipe.

Following the attack, Dominick was taken to the same hospital as his grandmother to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, but has not been charged with a crime.

It is estimated that 1 in 5 Americans, roughly 11.4 million people, suffers from severe mental illness.
