Police arrested a New York City woman Thursday (Dec. 27), over her alleged involvement in a Sandy Hook donations scam .

Nouel Alba is accused of soliciting funds by posing as the aunt of 6-year-old Noah Pozner, one of the students killed at the elementary school.

Alba pretended to be in need of donations to pay for Pozner’s funeral, and used her Facebook page, telephone calls, and text messages to receive the money. “We’ve set up a funeral fund for my brother and families. Anyone willing to make a donation can make one,” she wrote on the social networking site.

The child was among the first of the victims buried after the shooting. His family has denied any relation to Alba.

“It is unconscionable to think that the families of the victims in Newtown, and a sympathetic community looking to provide them some sort of financial support and comfort, have become the targets of criminals,”  said FBI Special Agent Charge Kimberly Mertz.

According to a criminal complaint, she even told one donor that she stepped foot inside the crime scene, and recounted a tail of hugging President Obama when he visited the area.

“She’s a nice person, she’s a very nice person—takes care of her kids. She goes to work,” a neighbor who was shocked to learn of the crime, said.

A resident of the Bronx, Alba denies any involvement in the scam, and said that her identity was stolen.
