Warren G, the west coast rapper, hip-hop producer and Long Beach home town hero will be honored by an award from a local Boys & Girls club.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach will commemorate the California legend through an Image Award for his commitment to the youth and community of Long Beach.

The event will take place at the John C. Wallace/Petrolane Club, with the awards presentation taking place at 4:30 p.m. followed by a toy give-away to local youth at 5:00 p.m.

Also in attendance will be actor Percy Daggs, Jr. and NFL Wide Receiver Samie Parker who will be honored with Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach Alumni awards. Professional boxer Jeremy Williams and actor Daniel Crockett will also be presented with Community Leadership awards.

HipHopWired recently sat down with the G to discuss the state of West Coast Hip-Hop. While seemingly absent on the music scene, Warren G stresses that his region will revitalize especially after Dre drops his classic, Detox.

“Right now it ain’t going nowhere. What needs to happen is, we need to finish this Detox get that out there, which is going to be a classic because that’s how we do it. Get that popping and that’s going to open doors.

From there all the West Coast artists can piggy back cause then the ear will be back towards the West Coast and we’ll let everybody hear the up and coming talent because there’s some tight people here.

Once that door gets opened back up, which it’s gonna get opened up by this Detox because I’m independent, I’m not with a major label but if mine happen to go as big as a major label record would go in, there it is.  I’ll be opening up the door, but until that Detox comes we just gotta kick back and let it go.”

I’m sure Detox could put the West Coast back on the map…that’s if it ever drops. SMH…
