Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was hospitalized Sunday (Dec. 30) after doctors found a blood clot while conducting an exam stemming from a concussion she suffered earlier in the month.
The 65-year-old was admitted to New York Presbyterian Hospital, where she will stay for the next 48 hours.
“Her doctors will continue to assess her condition, including other issues associated with her concussion,” revealed Deputy Secretary of State Philippe Reines. “They will determine if any further action is required.”
Blood clots occur when the blood hardens, turning it from liquid to solid. If not treated properly they can cause death.
It is unclear where Clinton’s blood clot is located.
After suffering from a stomach virus a few weeks ago, Clinton fainted and hit her head, leading to the concussion. The injury made her unable to testify before Congress about the Sept. 11 attacks in Benghazi, Libya. Her appearance has been postponed, but she will be required to testify before handing over the position to Sen. John Kerry who was nominated by President Obama as the new secretary of state.
