Thursday, March 7, Earl Sweatshirt gave an impromptu performance during a Flying Lotus show at Los Angeles’s Low End Theory. If anything, his gracing the stage revealed that the Odd Future rapper may very well be cooking up one of the year’s better projects with Doris. He previewed three new tracks from the album to a justified amount of fanfare.

He prefaced his performance by saying “bear with me on a couple of these,” before delving into the first song of the trio, titled “Burgundy,” that’s produced by Pharrell. The track sounds both amazingly crafted and insanely personal, maybe even more so than “Chum,” the only official offering from Doris to date.

Next in the line up was “Hive, a track with a bellowing synth that sounds like OF’s earlier work that Sweatshirt says it will feature Vince Staples and Casey Veggies. As you could imagine, it was hard to get a feel for the track since the performance was devoid of two-thirds of its featured artists. He closed with a performance of “Guild,” joined Mac Miller, who happened to be in attendance and is featured on the track.

We’re officially excited to see what else the young MC will deliver. Meanwhile his Odd Future brethren Tyler The Creator is also prepping his third official LP, Wolf, available for purchase April 2. At the moment Sweatshirt’s project doesn’t have a scheduled release date, but fans can expect it by year’s end.
