While her stint as an American Idol judge has been full of drama (rumor is everyone is on the chopping block), Nicki Minaj still has plenty of positives going on. That’s the gist of the YMCMB rapper’s cover story in the June/July 2013 issue Teen Vogue.

From her interview in the publication:

Nicki on her teen years:

“I would never want to be a teenager ever again. You know, adults feel like teens don’t have problems. I know firsthand that teenagers aren’t always the nicest people. They can be cruel and tough, and they can isolate you.”

Nicki on the music industry:

“People treat this business like it’s high school. It can absolutely feel like one big popularity contest, and you know what? I can’t be bothered. I can’t allow myself to play ridiculous games with grown adults in the industry. I can’t be nice to someone just because they’re hot right now. I can’t do it.”

Nicki on staying positive:

“I used to read the bad things people said about me. Then I asked myself, Why am I reading that when I have millions of people saying great things? You cannot give negativity power.”

The June/July issue Teen Vogue is on newsstands May 21. Check out more photos of Nicki and the cover in the gallery.
