A pair of struggle NBA players were recently in the news for domestic violence incidents involving their girlfriends. DeAndre Liggins of the OKC Thunder allegedly assaulted his girlfriend with an Xbox and was arrested on Saturday (September 1). Royce White, who missed last season (his rookie year) because of mental issues (OCD and anxiety disorder), was accused by his ex-girlfriend of hitting her upside the head back in June.
According to the Associated Press, Liggins assaulted his girlfriend in front of their 2-year-old son. The 25-year-old was arrested under the suspicion of domestic assault but has yet to be charged and was released after posting $8,000 bail. Liggins’ girlfriends claims the former University of Kentucky player punched her before she locked herself in a bedroom. He then knocked the door down and hit her in the head with an Xbox.
As for the incident involving White, it allegedly occurred back in June. However, TMZ reports that his ex-girlfriend and Maxim model Tania Mehra filed a police report on August 30 claiming that he caused an injury above her eye that she previously blamed on an accidental fall. Now Mehra asserts that White assaulted her after they got into an argument when she objected to him trying to holla at one of her friends. Mehra says she lied to the cops initially for fear of damaging White’s career.
No sense in Mehra keeping up the facade since she’s now an “ex-girlfriend,” eh?
Appearing in 39 games for OKC last year, Liggins averaged 1.5 ppg. White was a DNP for the entire season. Someone get these two some legit father figures, that they’ll listen to, stat.
