Fashion icon André Leon Talley had words for Russell Simmons, saying the Def Jam co-founder should be banned from fashion shows for his role in producing a controversial Harriet Tubman spoof. Simmons hit back, saying he’s done more for the fashion industry and gay equality than the former Vogue editor-at-large.
TheGrio published an interview with Talley this week where he checked Simmons on the video and expressed his opinion that he be banned from the front row at upcoming high-end fashion shows, most especially the ones held earlier this week during New York’s “Fashion Week.”

“I think anyone that is a person of achievement on the front row that has achieved a great deal be they black or white is a good thing,” the former Vogue editor at large said.
“I don’t think Russell Simmons should be seated on anybody’s front row this week after having done that disgusting Harriet Tubman sex tape. He is a man of great achievement. He is a great philanthropist….why would he think it would be an honorable thing to do?”
Uncle Rush took umbrage at Talley’s words, and took to Twitter to make his response. “Im really sincerely sorry @andreleontally. Fyi ive done more for blacks in fashion and gay rights then you, can i get a break/ seat?,” tweeted Simmons.
He added, “Where were u on marriage equality @ gay pride, dont ask dont tell? Did u help change fed policy LAST WEEK on mandatory minimum sentencing? I earned my seat take off the fur coat and sit down.”
A quick look at Talley’s Twitter timeline shows the current editor-in-chief of Russia’s style magazine Numéro Russia has not been active nor offered a response.
