We’ve seen a lot more of Plies in recent months that we had in some time. Because of this, we decided to sit with the rapper to discuss his Purple Heart album, people who misconceive his music for ignorance, and more.

On the latter, the Florida native said, “Cause most things people don’t understand, they conceive as ignorant.” He continued, “I think a lot of times, from my background and my culture — what I’m a part of and what I represent — we got 36” and 34” rims on our cars.”

Plies explained that people not of that culture may misconstrue this cultural practice and deem it as ignorant or “country.” But he says that’s just how he and people where he’s from express themselves creatively.

Musically speaking, the southern rhymer say his sound has matured. “I challenged myself more from an artist standpoint than I done ever did. And I think people going to feel the same way about it once they hear it.”

Fans should expect Purple Heart in the near future. Hear Plies speak more below.
