Details surrounding the death of Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman have begun to make themselves available. The 46-year-old father of three was found dead in his Manhattan apartment on Sunday, February 2 and a heroin overdose was strongly suspected.

Now reports are surfacing that police recovered 70 bags of heroin–50 of which were unopened, a charred spoon and several bottles of prescription medicine in the apartment.

Via NYDailyNews:

Seventy baggies of heroin — at least 50 of them unopened — were discovered in the $10,000-a-month rental where the Oscar-winning actor was found dead Sunday with a needle stuck in his left arm, sources said.

Some of the envelopes had the words “Ace of Spades” written on them, and others were stamped with “Ace of Hearts” — both brands of heroin often cut with a powerful pain reliever called fentanyl that have become a plague in Pennsylvania, where 22 people have died of overdoses.

Police said they haven’t seen heroin with the Ace of Hearts stamp in New York City since 2012.

Across town in the Bronx, the DEA recently conducted a drug bust on an apartment and obtained $8M worth of heroin that was labeled “McDonald’s,” “iPhone” and “Lady Gaga,” but the reemergence of the Ace of Hearts has authorities gripped with concern.

The New York Post is reporting that police have doubled down their man hunt in search of Hoffman’s dealer in hopes that other batches of deadly drugs aren’t being circulated on the streets.
