Actor Chadwick Boseman excellently portrayed Jackie Robinson in the biopic 42, but playing James Brown is an entirely different animal. However, from the looks of the trailer for Get On Up, Boseman may have hit another homerun out of the reenacting the life of an iconic African-American ballpark.

Get On Up is set to chronicle the rise of Brown from running the streets of Augusta, Ga. to becoming the “Godfather of Soul.” Besides Boseman, another interesting casting is Nelsan Ellis (aka Lafayette from True Blood) as the late, great Bobby Byrd. Te star-studded cast also includes Jill Scott (Deidre “Dee-Dee” Jenkins, Viola Davis (Susie Brown) and Octavia Spencer (Aunt Honey).

The trailer catches some of the turning points in Brown’s life like being in jail, performing in Vietnam and, of course, rocking multiple stages. This is an official biopic so Brown’s music has been cleared and will no doubt be booming through the theaters for the entire film.

Get On Up is in theaters August 1. Watch the trailer below.
