Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld hurled an insult at President Barack Obama regarding the handling of the war in Afghanistan. During a live television interview, Rumsfeld said that a trained ape would best President Obama in such foreign policy matters.

Appearing on Fox News’ On the Record with Greta van Susteren program Monday night, Rumsfeld shared his disappointment in the Obama administration for not securing a “status of forces agreement” with Afghan President Hamid Karzai. The agreement essentially would allow the U.S. military forces to remain in the country beyond what was initially agreed upon.

From On The Record with Greta van Susteren:

We have status of forces agreements, probably with 100, 125 countries in the world. This administration, this White House and the State Department have failed to get a status of forces agreement [in Afghanistan.] A trained ape can get a status of forces agreement. It does not take a genius. We have so mismanaged that relationship.

Rumsfeld, in his typically gruff fashion, spoke for a bit more before the interview was concluded. President Karzai was also defended by Rumsfeld, who said that the White House “trashed” the Afghan leader thus souring any potential for true diplomacy.

Let us give you a a little history on Ol’ Rummy. When working under then-President George W. Bush, Rumsfeld was famously quoted for saying “I don’t do diplomacy” in a 2004 ABC interview. So, it’s a bit ironic that Rummy is checking President Obama for the same thing he said he wasn’t great at himself. Sounds like some shenanigans from our end.

Also, for those who didn’t know, Rumsfeld was fired from his Cabinet post after fouling up both the Iraq and Afghanistan campaigns. Pretty sure his job record is hovering around “trained ape” levels at this point, no?
