While Jay Z is the face of Roc Nation Sports, the man, the myth, and the mogul isn’t the only one moving and shaking for the company. GQ spoke with the rapper’s business partner and Roc Nation Sports President Juan “OG Juan” Perez, who’s been mentioned in many of his songs, in his first-ever interview.

Perez discussed the branding aspect that makes the label so appealing. “Well, what we bring to the table in negotiations, is we show the ball clubs how strong we are on the marketing side. Because at the end of the day, you want to put people in the stands,” he said on Roc Nation Sports negotiating philosophy.

“We help develop a player’s brand off the field, which eventually brings more fans, more recognition to the player so more people want to meet the player, see the players play. So we’re branding the player, marketing the player—that makes the player even bigger than what he was when we got him.”

In one year of operation, Roc Nation Sports have signed athletes like Kevin Durant, CC Sabathia, Robinson Cano, Skylar Diggins, and more. Read the full Juan Perez interview via GQ.
