People who doubted that Lil Wayne could pull off a successful rock album may have to eat their words now that the Recording Industry Association of America has confirmed that Lil Wayne’s Rebirth has gone gold.

The RIAA made the announcement today that Rebirth is certified gold and vastly approaching platinum status.

The album previously hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Rap Album chart and reached No. 4 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Album chart.

Now although he’s currently incarcerated in New York’s infamous Riker’s Island a statement from Lil Wayne has been released.

Speaking on Rebirth he says,

“I have evolved both lyrically and musically as an artist and I want everyone to hear my growing pains. This is probably my best work yet.”

Lil Wayne is set to be released from jail in March of next year.
