The NFL season may be months away but Richard Sherman is apparently practicing like he doesn’t intend to relinquish his NFL champion title soon. The league’s highest paid cornerback got a little physical with his wide receiver teammate Phil Bates at their minicamp yesterday. During a snap, Sherman is seen roughing up Bates, resulting in his jersey being torn off and punches being thrown.

Both sides immediately cleared the sidelines, turning it into an all-out offense vs. defense fiasco.

However, cooler heads prevailed and there was no bad blood on either street fighter’s side.

“I think that’s what makes us great, there’s not a whole lot of teams that’s going to go that hard every single practice,” said Bobby Wagner in regards to the isolated incident. “We go that hard every single time we step out on this field and that’s exactly why we did what we did.”

Free safety Earl Thomas also agree saying, “anytime we talk on the back end of our defense, we always make it hard for whoever we play. You can even ask Russell that.”

Sherman and Bates were later spotted laughing it all but the film reel still caught the knuckle shuffle in full. Bates is a NFL rookie so he was probably getting a crash course on life in the league from the veteran cornerback.
