The stars were out in New Orleans over the July 4th holiday weekend for the 20th annual Essence Festival, an event that’s ordinarily a hotbed for R&B and Soul talent. But this year, during a 20th anniversary run for Illmatic no less, Nas was slated to represent Hip-Hop.

Hip-Hop Wired was on hand while Escobar discussed how it felt to perform at Essence during a press conference. “It’s an honor,” Nas said about have the opportunity to grace the stage at the festival. “Twenty years of Essence at the same time as 20 years of my first album, so it worked out like really crazy.”

Always calm, cool, and collected, the Queensbridge rapper explained that, “he couldn’t have planned a better thing,” but that he hopes to be invited back to Essence to promote Hip-Hop at the event. Hear Nas speak more in the footage above.
